Hosted by LL Cool J, the evening celebrated music from all different genres globally as a total of 81 awards were handed out during the pre-telecast and main show broadcasted on CBS.

Before winning “Best Pop Solo Performance” and “Song of the Year,” teenage sensation Lorde performed her hit-song “Royals.” Katy Perry set the stage on fire with guest Juicy J as they rocked the crowd with “Dark Horse,” while Chicago and Robin Thicke took viewers back with a classic medley leading into last year’s No. 1-hit “Blurred Lines.”

John Legend serenaded his wife-model Chrissy Teigen from a far with “All of Me,” leading into the performance of the night by Kendrick Lamar. The Compton-native paired up with rock band Imagine Dragons for an explosive performance of “m.A.A.d city,” and a remix of “Radioactive” which shortly hit iTunes after.

The major winners of the night, Daft Punk, who won five awards including “Album of the Year” recreated their magic in studio as Pharrell, Stevie Wonder, and Nile Rodgers performed “Get Lucky.” The most eye-opening performance came from this year’s other big winners in Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. With the help of Mary Lambert, Madonna, and Queen Latifah, the rap duo gave a live rendition of their chart-topper “Same Love” as 33 couples exchanged rings and were married by the words of Latifah.

P!nk with Nate Reuss, Gary Clark Jr. and Keith Urban, Ringo Starr, and Taylor Swift were other noteable artists to hit the stage.
