Mikey: Choke No Joke and Streetfunk TV takes us back to the days of The Tunnel Nightclub in New York City. This is the spot where artists like Biggie, Nas, Jay, Cam’ron, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang, Puff and countless other partied and put on legendary performances at. Funkmaster Flex set it off every Sunday night before the club closed down in 2001. Some of the original videographers and hosts take a look back at all the memories in this upcoming documentary.

Dame Dash vs. Def Jam: The Final Chapter (from This is Choke No Joke) from Miss Info on Vimeo.

“In this final installment of the Dame Dash vs Def Jam segment from the I Am Choke No Joke documentary, Choke give his side of what lead up to the Def Jam marketing meeting for Jay-Z. Choke No Joke claims that he realized there was a split between the Roc-A-Fella CEO’s when Damon Dash asked him to videotape a Jay-Z concert in Puerto Rico. It would be Choke No Joke first time working with Jay-Z alone during his time at Roc-A-Fella.”

Choke No Jokes: Dame Dash’s outburst Pt 3 and Jay-Z in Puerto Rico from Miss Info on Vimeo.

Choke sent over part 3 of his clips of Dame Dash’s angry tirade vs the Def Jam staff back in 2003. Its really more of the same chest-thumping that you saw in parts 1 and 2. Whats more interesting in this behind the scenes footage is the part when Dame is talking to his staff apres-tantrum. He hears about an upcoming Jay-Z appearance at the Mixshow Power Summit in Puerto Rico for the first time. (I remember attending that year. Good times. Thanks to Rene and the rest of his staff. Alot of the artists spent their afterhours wandering away from the resort for jumpies. Was that the same year that 50 Cent debuted with Eminem? I have a terrible memory) And then Choke includes a clip from Hov’s performance. According to “insiders,” Dame scoffed at Jay’s dressed up appearance when he heard about it afterwards. And obviously the chasm between the two was growing and irreparable.

UPDATE: ugh, I’m an idiot…the video was set on private. I’m sorry. Its fixed now. Come again.

(*self-flagellates* mercilessly)

This is probably the most controversial part of Choke’s new DVD, but I could watch more of the vintage Tunnel footage that is sprinkled through the DVD. Choke, please put out a whole DVD of the Tunnel performances that you and Mr. Excitement have! [EDIT NOTE: Choke says the final version of his DVD which is out right now in stores, has more complete Tunnel footage! Yay]
I posted other parts of the DVD here (with Tunnel footage), and here (Jay-Z at the Tunnel)

As for this excerpt….

yeesh. There are many men in the industry who are notorious screamers. some front like they’re Mr. Friendly outside the office. others, who embrace the bully role like Dame. I used to wonder if it was a requisite for success in this business. But I’ve seen many who are very successful by still being ruthless (often unscrupulous) but more silent. Now I wonder if noise is a liability.

But I guess the lesson learned here is….check your email? [NOTE: Choke adds some interesting insight into this in the comment section below]

Rick Ross paid a visit to The Angie Martinez Show on his Mastermind promo run, where he shared a little secret about his new “Nobody” single. You know Diddy’s intro where he’s talking that talk? That was him actually barking on a poor soul (who will remain anonymous). Shades of the great Dame Dash.

Rozay also spoke on how recreating the Biggie track was French Montana’s idea and how they reached out to D-Roc, squashing his beef with Jeezy, and his new 109-room mansion, which was previously owned by Evander Holyfield.

We love seeing throwback rap footage pop up in the Web. From NORE’s ‘What What’ footage to Choke No Joke’s classic Rocafellas clips; we can’t get enough. This week, Tim Westwood uploaded some rare footage of Dre and Eminem wylin’out a London concert in 2001. You can see the genuine connection these two masterminds share. In more recent news, both Dre and Paul Rosenberg said Em is definitely releasing an album this year.

“We fully expect to be releasing a new Eminem album in 2013. He’s been working on it for some time. It’s safe to say that it will be post-Memorial Day at some point, but we’re not exactly sure when. We’ve got some dates locked in for him to perform live in Europe in August, so we’re trying to see what else lines up.”- – Paul Rosenberg

It’s funny, I distinctly remember Jimmy talking about this trip to Flight Club during our visit to his studio because he mentioned that he would never pay $600 for a pair of Jordans. In this clip, Capo and our boy Joe La Puma/Complex hit up New York City’s best sneaker consignment shop Flight Club to add a few more Nike boxes to the collection.

Capo has the best sound effects/adlibs.

after the jump, former Rocafella videographer Choke No Joke released pt. 15 of The last Days Of The Roc, a video clip of Dipset in the studio with Dame and Victoria Beckham…

The Tunnel Nightclub: Vintage footage of Meth and Red, Black Rob, Beanie Sigel and more from Miss Info on Vimeo.

after a day filled with Vimeo issues, webhost issues and more….this was a true treat. Choke No Joke and the “THis is Choke No Joke” documentary sent over this exclusive treat….more vintage footage from the days of the Tunnel Nightclub. This time, featuring performances by Meth and Red, Black Rob, Beanie Sigel etc. But honestly, my favorite parts of the video are the crowd shots. So brings backs memories. I definitely made a point of dressing down on Tunnel Sundays…as in sweatsuit, running sneakers, ponytail, lipgloss, lol. Play the wall, grab a plate of not-great West Indian food as a last resort, and avoid the co-ed bathrooms : )

(choke said he got more goodies for us too, so stay tuned!)

oh man, I know I’m gonna love this.

I was hazed into the Tunnel skull n bones society early, lol….wonder if I still have those classic backdrop pics…

(props to Choke No Joke again, def wanna see the full doc)

meow the jewels

El-P and Killer Mike haven’t even dropped Run The Jewels 2 yet, and already they’re about to start on a hilarious reworked version of the album featuring nothing but cat sounds (you read that right). The idea, dubbed Meow The Jewels, was floated by the duo as a joke a few months ago, until one fan launched a Kickstarter to fund the project. Always up for a laugh, El-P and Killer Mike agreed to the album if the Kickstarter reached $45,100 — and lo and behold, it smashed that target this week by over $10,000. The pair plan to donate all the additional profits to the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.

Aside from a “shit load of cats,” Meow The Jewels will also feature contributions from a star-studded cast including Just Blaze, The Alchemist, Dan the Automator, Baauer, Prince Paul, Skywlkr, BOOTS, Geoff Barrow, Zola Jesus, Nick Rook and Solidified Sun. No word on when the album will be cozying up on shelves, but you can pick up the meow-less version of Run The Jewels 2 on October 28.
